Marketing doesn't have to be stressful. Here's the solution.

Marketing.

Let’s talk about it.

Many people “hate”’marketing. As someone who originally came from an editorial background in magazine and book publishing and majored in sociology, then journalism, I also had a dislike for what I thought “marketing” encompassed.

Now , I’m nearing my 40s (eek!), so I grew up mainly without the internet.

The marketing I thought I witnessed was loud, brash and all directed one way: at the customer. There was no chance for real connection...or so I thought. I never considered that the butcher who my parents visited every Saturday morning at the Ringwood markets was “‘marketing” when he spoke with them about what they were up to or knew which cut of meat they’d prefer. Nor, did I think of the man who owned the mechanics / petrol station five minutes from our home of “marketing” when he would chat to my folks while filing up their Nissan Urvan with petrol.

These things were in fact forms of marketing. As Milan Kundera famously stated, “business only has two functions - marketing and innovation.” Either your creating something , or you’re telling people about it.

As I moved from publishing into marketing, then online marketing specialising in eCommerce, I realised how true Kundera's quote is. I also realised how much, in all of my roles, a large part of my work had been marketing. Working with advertisers and sales teams to connect their product with our audience, working on how we would show the story of an author in order to connect readers to their book, creating a custom publication for Australia's largest department store to attract an entirely new audience, understanding which elements of a brand to include in a feature article in order to help that business succeed.

Marketing is not always this shouty, aggressive thing . Nor is it only 24/7 seflies and buying into the "look at moi" culture. Marketing can be the thank you card that comes after a client finishes their contract with you, the personal DM on IG that shows you care about your customers or that little surprise fortune cookie with an online delivery (looking at you Go-to Skincare).

This shift in understanding what marketing could be, is what I see my students take away most when they finish the Marketing for Your Small Business workshops I’ve run live - and sold out - for the last three years. This week I launched this course online for the first time and I’m thrilled to see so many creative small biz owners enrol and msg me saying they’re excited to “finally” understand not only what marketing is but how it can help them grow their business without overwhelm.

You can find out everything about my marketing course here. If you missed my earlier announcement , I’m giving anyone who gets this weekly email 20% off if they enrol before 11:59pm AEST Friday 7 June 2019 (using code EMAIL20 at checkout). I won’t be offering that discount again in 2019. The course closes for enrolments 11:59pm Thursday 20 June 2019. If you want the bonus trainings (think expert advice on Facebook Advertising, Instagram Marketing, Web Design, Leadership & more) you’ll need to either pay in full before Thursday 20 June, or before Thursday 13 June if paying in instalments.

I am pumped to bring this course to small biz owners like you, . It will challenge you to re-think marketing & show you the best channels, strategies & tactics to utilise marketing to grow your biz. What's more, you'll have lifetime access so if I update course materials in the future, you'll get all of that too for free.

Marketing really is about creating connections, .

This course shows you exactly how to do that.
