Why doesn't your marketing work? This will help.

Have you ever taken one of those magazine quizzes? You know the type where you answer a series of multiple choice questions then find out exactly which career / lover / children’s name you should pick?
When it comes to marketing today, I feel like many small biz owners want to have some quiz-like outcome: just tell me what to do! But knowing what to do is pointless if you don’t know why you’re doing it.
This is exactly the reason I started running my Marketing for Your Small Business public workshops 3.5 years ago. I wanted to share the knowledge I had gained working in senior marketing roles for companies like Amazon, Country Road Group and Audible with everyday small biz owners.

Unfortunately, getting your marketing right isn’t as simple as answering one magazine quiz, or putting together one FB ad set, creating one IGTV, setting up one email sequence or filming one YouTube video.

For marketing to “work” it needs to be consistently speaking to the needs of your audience AND to the needs of your business. But how to do both?

This is where I see so many small biz owners get stuck. They either just talk 100% about what they offer in their marketing then wonder why people aren’t engaged OR they provide constant value, never EVER ask for a sale then wonder why they aren’t making any money.

Good marketing pulls people in and makes your offer the most desirable solution for the problem your audience faces. It also builds brand loyalty to the point that your customers & clients sell your offerings for you through voluntary testimonials, reviews and other word of mouth marketing.

If you want to understand not only WHAT marketing you should be doing, but also HOW marketing actually works, then my online marketing course might just be for you. It breaks down the exact steps you need to complete to create a full marketing plan and, once you know these, you can utilise that education year after year after year. Best of all, the course is self-paced so you can do it anytime and you’ll have lifetime access so when modules are updated you’ll get that info too.

Here's some words from others:

"I spent three years completing a marketing degree and it never went into as much useful detail as this. I have been running my business for four years based on this old, tired, ways of marketing. I wish I had done this course sooner. It has changed everything. " - Kate, NSW

"We were about to launch our new biz and one of the greatest takeaways from this, was that we needed a layered marketing strategy. We walked away with our minds buzzing and ready to implement some fun ways to market our biz. It goes without saying [but let's say it anyway] that Fiona knows her sh^t when it comes to getting your brand out there." - Holly, VIC

"I finally understand how I can make more money and I don't feel like I'm selling out. Thank you Fiona! I have been avoiding marketing as I didn't understand it. Now I do!" - Carmen, QLD

If you’re not in a position to invest in the course right now , there are still ways to improve your marketing efforts so they provide value to your customers while bringing in revenue for your biz.

Here are five questions you should consider:

  1. What are the three biggest frustrations or fears people have with your offering? Are you regularly speaking to these in your marketing?

  2. What’s your ratio? That is, what percentage of your marketing are you dedicating to providing value vs asking for a sale? A good ratio for this is 3:1

  3. What are the benefits of what you offer? Do you utilise these regularly in your marketing? So often small biz owners focus on the features (ie 100% Cotton) rather than the benefits (easy wash, breathable, good for sensitive skin)

  4. Where is your audience? Are you on certain platforms because you think you should be vs it being a regular hang out choice for your audience?

  5. How are you humanising your brand? People buy from people. Are you a faceless company or do people understand who you are and WHY you do what you do?

Good marketing can make or break a business. It may sound harsh but it’s the truth, .

I’ve witnessed wayyyyy too many small biz owners spend thousands $$$ (or tens of thousands) on consultants and tactics without ever understanding what marketing is or how it works. My course will empower you to truly understand marketing so that whether you DIY or hire someone to action your marketing plan, you will get the best possible outcome for your biz.
