Hello and welcome to Episode 19. Let's dance.

OK. So you're probably like, what am I listening to? Is this the My Daily Business Coach podcast or did someone just steal my phone or flip the channel?

Exhale. It is the podcast. It's a tip episode. And that music that you just heard is actually what I'm going to be talking about. I know it totally sounds weird. It sounds like it's got nothing to do with business but hear me out.

So I want you to take a minute. And if you can, if you're in the position where you're not driving, you're not doing anything else. And you can close your eyes.

I want you to close your eyes and think of your absolute favorite dance track. You know, the song that when it comes on the radio or at a wedding or even when you're just like strolling the aisles of the supermarket, you can't help but move. So have a real think about that.

What is that song for you? So it could be the Beastie Boys. It could beyonce It could be Blink 182. Who knows? They had fans. It could be Brandy or whoever starts with B, it could be Bruce Springsteen. I mean, the list is endless.

What is your favorite song to dance to? To move to. To just give it all up and let the music run through you. If you're listening to this and you're like, I'm a bit too cool for school, Fiona, I don't have a song or, you know, can you just get to the business stuff then keep listening? This will all make sense in a second.

So today's tip is really about how to switch up your mood in seconds. That is how you might go from, say, having a phone call with your accountant at 10 a.m. where you learn that something big has gone amiss and you'll need to do some serious work on your finances to having to jump onto a presentation call at 10:30 a.m. with a sponsor and be all upbeat and excited. Now, this is not a fake scenario. We all have instances while running our small business where our mood will shift for whatever reason, bad news from a supplier, issues with poor performance of a staff member, incorrect media. Someone says something negative about our business online or financial strain.

And we need to get back to being in a balanced or "good" mood, quick smart. So how do we do that? How do we actually shift out of this kind of negative mood and not just pretend to shift out of it by doing the shake it off.

The what? Now, I know you'll probably associate this tactic with Taylor Swift, but she had nothing to do with that at all. I have never been a Taylor Swift fan, but I actually kind of changed my mood because I looked at her documentary recently, and it's absolutely one of the best things I've ever watched. And she is incredibly intelligent.

But it didn't come from Taylor Swift. And if she irks you, please don't let that be a deterrent to trying this tactic. So the shake it off is really the action that you do on the regular when you want to boost your mood.

So what do you do? How do you start this? Well, let's start with prepping a list of good dance tracks. Now, I have one on Spotify use. You might choose to pull it together on another platform, but wherever you choose to host this. the point is to spend a bit of time and create your shake it off playlist. You can make this secret. You can share it. You could have a shake it off team playlist for the whole company.

But whatever it means to you, whoever you're going to share it with, wherever you're going to host it. Make sure that you put it together. So then whenever you feel like you need to shake off the bad vibes or the bad mood or stop yourself going down a shame spiral, you click on that playlist and you find a few seconds at least to dance, to move in some way.

Now, I do this all the time in my office, you know, for what you might be like. Well, what kind of thing would make this relevant or make it necessary to try this tactic? So the things for me gearing up to speak to a potential client or gearing up to have a difficult conversation with a client. It could be after reading a really annoying email.

It could be if I've gone into comparison-itis when I'm scrolling Instagram. It could be when I realized that I've sent an incorrect or incomplete email to somebody. It could be if I've been turned down for something and the list goes on and on.

So I actually use this tactic in my personal life as well. And I have actually been known to request that my son and I shake it off in the shops if one of us is getting antsy. It is handy any time anywhere for business, for life, for all sorts of things in your world.

So this is not to say that you should just ignore your feelings or minimize any real frustrations or pains that come up in your life as a small business owner. Not at all. This tactic is really for on those days or the instances where, you know, that that thing that's currently irking you or, you know, really grating on you isn't that big of a problem. This tactic is one way to help you pep up and improve your mood and your vibes as you get through the day.

So I would love to know from you what is your number one dance track? What are the songs that you're going to put onto your shake it off playlist. Please send me a dm on Instagram. I'm at @mydailybusinesscoach and we can share stories and maybe I can uncover some of the cool tracks that I don't know about that you absolutely love and vice versa.

So that is it for today's episode. If you love this one, please send it on to a small business friend so they can learn this tactic, set up their playlist and shake it off whenever necessary. Don't forget to subscribe to this podcast.
