Episode transcript:

Hi there, welcome to Episode 63 of My Daily Business Coach podcast. If this is your first time listening to the podcast. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I am Fiona Killackey. I'm a business coach and consultant and I have started this podcast really to help you understand quick tips and tools and tactics, as well as insights and inspiration that will help you start and scale your small business without stress.

So today's episode is a quick tip episode. And today I'm going to be talking about a tactic. So I really talk about a tip or tool or tactic and a tactic today that is going to really, really help you when it comes to social proof and referral and word of mouth marketing.

So let's get stuck in and find out what I'm talking about.

So one of the best things that you can do for your business, regardless whether you sell products or services or mixture of both, is to get testimonials and reviews. Now, I know that for some people listening, say psychologists, you are not able to source reviews or testimonials. That kind of goes against the ethics of what you do. And there are kind of laws and things governing. But for the majority of people out there, understanding how to ask for a review, ask for a testimonial can be the first step in getting so much social proof, which is a huge contributor to when people decide to purchase you or your product or service over somebody else's.

Now, I have actually done a full episode on how to ask for a testimonial, and that's episode 49. And you can go back and listen to that after this one. And I've also done a lot of episodes on marketing. One of the key things to be aware of when it comes to sort of asking for testimonials, getting reviews is the buyer's cycle. And that is really the five key stages that anyone will go through before they transact with a business.

Now, it starts with awareness. Somebody mentions you. Now I'm aware that you exist. It goes then into research. This is when people are going to check out your on social media, Google you, find your website, then it goes into a point of evaluation. Now evaluation is the last stage before the next one, which is purchase. So it's in that evaluation stage that testimonials and reviews can really do the huge grunt of the work to get people interested enough to buy from you.

I mean, we've all done it. You find an Airbnb place and you check the reviews. You know, if there's one saying, oh, the heating wasn't on, this didn't work, doesn't look like it does in the photos, you're instantly turned off and you're like, OK, not going to that. So huge, huge social proof can either negatively or positively impact our brand.

So today I wanted to talk about how to build a reviews page.

Now you might think, oh my goodness, I don't need a whole page on my website dedicated to reviews. It doesn't need to be in your navigation. It could be just in the footer. It could also just be completely unlinked, which means it's hidden so people can't find it unless you give them the specific link. And what it really is is a landing page that's going to allow people to easily leave your review.

So say you have a shop and you've said to people, oh, I'd love it if you could, you know, leave a review on Google my business page or I'd love it if you could leave a review on this website and they might think, "Yep, yep, I'll do it. I've had a great experience."

And then they get home and they're like, oh, I don't know where I was supposed to go to do that. And then they Google, Google my business and they're taken off to something completely different to set up their own Google my business. And before long they like this is all too hard not going to do it. So what you want in your reviews page is to set up literally your [website.com/review], and then you can just always give that one out and then you want to make it clear there how to leave a review on various platforms.

So for me, I've actually just done this in my own business. []. And what that allows people to do is to leave a review for this podcast on iTunes, on Spotify. It also allows people to leave a review for my business in general, like the overall My Daily Business Coach to leave a review for specific products. And all of that is really going to then help me promote those products, talk about those products, but also gain insight into specific feedback that I've been given in that review. So often, I'll get D.M. saying, oh, my gosh, I love your podcast and I really, really appreciate it. I absolutely appreciate it.

Sometimes I'll go back to people and say, "Ah, if you feel comfortable, I'd really love it if you could leave a review on iTunes or another place that helps the podcast get found." And quite a few times I've had people say, yes, definitely, I'll do that. And then they'll come back a few minutes later and be like I've just looked. I don't understand how I do this. I can't find a way to leave a review. And so what I've done is to create a simple tutorial video on my reviews page that shows people how to actually leave a review that literally does this step by step to make it as simple as possible.

So if you are a company, whether you're a service provider or product business or both, and you are trying to get more reviews happening, then you definitely want to think about creating a reviews page on your website. Again, doesn't need to be in the navigation. Probably better if it's not, but that you can have a quick link that you can send people that's memorable that they can easily go to and then choose where they leave a review. It's really, really helpful.

And it just allows people to also see different things that maybe you haven't mentioned. So you might have: please leave your review on our Facebook page. And there, like I didn't even realize you have a Facebook page.

So it's just a great tool in general. And I hope it comes in really useful for you. So that is it for today's Quick Tip episode. As always, you'll find the shownotes over at mydailybusinesscoach.com/podcast/63 as this is episode 63.
