Do you love your life as a small business owner? Let's be real. Sometimes we just don't. It's my hope that this, the My Daily Business Podcast helps you regain a little of that lost love through practical, actionable tips, tools and tactics, interviews with creative and curious small business owners, and in-depth coaching episodes with me, your host, Fiona Kalaky.
With more than 20 years experience in marketing, brand content and systems and having now helped thousands of small business owners, I know what it takes to build a business that you can be proud of and that actually aligns with your values, your beliefs and your hopes for the future. So much of our daily life is spent working on and in the businesses and the brands that we are creating and so it makes sense to actually love what you do.
Today it's a quick tip episode where I share a tip, tool, or tactic that you can implement immediately. Before we get started, I want to remind you that I am running an AI chat that is a monthly chat. We come together on Zoom and I go through the best AI tools for small businesses. These are incredible tools whether you're working solo or have a team. We don't just use ChatGPT - there are much better tools available.
I want to acknowledge where I'm coming from and acknowledge the traditional owners and custodians of these lands, which for me is the Waurong and Raundjri people of the Kulin Nation. I pay my respects to their elders, past and present and acknowledge that sovereignty has never been ceded.
My eldest son plays basketball in two different teams - rep and domestic. Basketball takes up a huge part of our lives. I didn't grow up playing team sports, and it's taken me years to understand the rules. But what I absolutely adore is the team camaraderie.
One thing I particularly notice is during free throws. When someone misses their first free throw, their teammates clap and encourage them for their second attempt. Even the best NBA players miss free throws, but their team supports them regardless.
This is something we don't do as business owners. When we miss a shot - whether it's a podcast opportunity, collaboration, or any other chance - we often berate ourselves instead of maintaining hope for the next opportunity. The game doesn't stop because of one missed shot, and neither should your business journey.
So ask yourself: What happens when you miss the shot? Are you berating yourself, or are you saying, "That's fine, there's another shot"? Consider cultivating a mini team around yourself of other small business owners who can provide that encouragement.
