Do you love your life as a small business owner?

Let's be real.

Sometimes we just don't. It's my hope that this, the My Daily Business Podcast, helps you regain a little of that lost love through practical, actionable tips, tools and tactics, interviews with creative and curious small business owners, and in depth coaching episodes with me, your host, Fiona Kalaky. With more than 20 years experience in marketing, brand content and systems and having now helped thousands of small business owners, I know what it takes to build.

A business that you can be proud of and that actually aligns with your values, your beliefs, and your hopes for the future. So much of our daily life is spent working on and in the businesses and the brands that we are creating, and so it makes sense to actually love what you do.

So let's get into this podcast and help you figure out how to love your business and your life.

Hello and welcome to episode 481 of the My Daily Business podcast. Today is a really important episode if you have ever felt yourself overwhelmed or deep in comparisonitis as a small business owner, and I think that is pretty much most small business owners. So everyone is going to get something out of today's podcast.

Before we jump in, I want to let you know that group coaching is open for the waitlist. We are kicking that off very soon. It is summer here in Australia, but you can apply from anywhere around the world. We have a small group, a curated group of creative small business owners.

Now, I think any business owner is creative, so don't let that stop you. We've had in the past lawyers, accountants, and people from industries that aren’t traditionally “creative.” But they are really creative people. So it can be anyone in small business who is looking for a lovely group of people to connect with, as well as myself. Every single fortnight for a year, we do that live, and a whole bunch of things are changing in the next group coaching program.

If that is of interest to you, head on over to mydailybusiness.com/groupcoaching, and you can read all about it there and join the waitlist. We will be opening that very soon, and anyone on the list will get first chance to book their interview, apply, and connect. It’s worth getting on there! You also get a bunch of perks if you're on the waitlist and then go through with the program.

And before we jump in, I also want to acknowledge where I'm coming from and acknowledge the traditional owners and custodians of these beautiful lands. For me, that is the Wurundjeri and Boon Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation. I pay my respects to their elders, past and present, and acknowledge that sovereignty has never been ceded.

Alright, let’s get into today’s quick tip episode. I am a huge believer that if you can somehow gamify things—whether that’s your finances, using an app to track how close you are to hitting your goals, or reconciling things in your accounting software—if you can gamify or make more enjoyable some of the tedious parts of business, it just makes the whole thing more enjoyable.

And obviously, part of my mission is to help people enjoy their life and their business on the daily. So today, I wanted to talk about something that is really fun to create but also fun to execute. What is it? A bingo card for getting yourself out there.

Now, this is the perfect time of year to do it if you are listening in real-time. But honestly, it can be done anytime.

What do I mean by a bingo card? Well, if you’ve never played bingo, you usually go to a game where someone has this bowl machine thing at the top. I’ve been to a few bingo games—what would you call them? Classes? Sessions? Gosh. Bingo events.

Anyway, someone reads out the numbers, they roll the balls in a cage, and then they pick one up and read it aloud. Whoever fills up their bingo card first, shouts “Bingo!”

So, what I want you to think about is: How are you going to get your brand out there in 2025? What does your particular bingo card look like?

For example, let’s say you have a 5x5 bingo card, meaning you’ve got 25 squares. What will each of those squares represent? Now, that’s 25 things across the whole year—only two a month, roughly, or maybe three in one month. But you could decide, “Actually, I want to make this into 48 squares,” or whatever number feels right for you. But 25 is a good place to start.

Imagine you’ve got a 5x5 grid. You could create this easily in Google Slides, Canva, or any other tool. Now, you need to think about what things will help you get your brand out there.

It could be you and your marketing team, or just you if you’re a solo operator. You might decide things like launching a new product, getting onto a particular media outlet, or appearing on someone’s podcast.

It could be writing a column for a particular blog or media publication. It might involve collaborating with someone, working with a particular influencer, or even becoming an influencer yourself.

You could also focus on becoming more of a content creator, running an event, or speaking at your first keynote—or even being on a panel. And I say “even” with love because being on a panel for the first time is a huge deal! It could be MC-ing an event. There are countless possibilities.

But you want to think about how you want to get your brand out there. If you’re stuck, this is where AI can help! You could use an AI tool to find ideas by looking at others who are doing a great job of getting their brands out there. Put their website or social media into an AI tool, like Poppy—something I’ve mentioned before. I love Poppy! (If you want to sign up, use the code “Fiona” for a discount.)

You could also use tools like Google Alerts to track what people are doing in your industry. This might help you discover new places to speak, podcasts to join, or media features and journalists to connect with. Once you have 25 things listed, each one can go in a square on your bingo card.

Now, whenever you’re stuck or unsure of what to work on, look at your bingo card and think: “What is one step I can take toward completing one of these tasks?”

Let’s say, for example, you want to be on a panel at an event relevant to your audience—maybe a trade show or a business conference. The next thing you’d do is put that on your bingo card. If you’re stuck, you could look at the website for past panelists, find out who to contact, or simply email them and say, “Hi, how do you decide who gets to be on the panels? I’d love to put my name forward. Can you connect me with the event producer?”

Sometimes it’s as simple as sending an email and seeing where it takes you! Without something like this bingo card, you might just sit there, thinking, “I want to do this, but where do I even start?”

Again, you can use AI for this. Just search for things like, “I want to be a panellist at a trade show,” and put in the event website. You can also use a tool like Perplexity to ask, “Who is the best person to contact about getting onto a panel at XYZ trade show?”

The point of today’s quick tip episode is this: We all need to get our brands out there. We need to be seen. Sometimes it can be confronting and vulnerable to put yourself out there, but if you can gamify it and make it a bit more fun, it becomes easier.

And for those of you who are creative, you can make your bingo card a beautiful masterpiece. Print it out and keep it somewhere visible—maybe on your desk, on the fridge, or in your office. Then you’ll be able to look at your bingo card and see how to achieve those 25 things.

The goal is not to add to your stress, but to open up possibilities and get excited about the things that are coming.

So, think about what’s on your bingo card for 2025 (or 2026, 2027, or whenever you’re listening to this). What are the 25 things that will help your brand get out there? And how can you take small steps to make progress toward them?

Put the card somewhere visible—don’t just make it and forget about it. The best thing is to print it out and keep it where you’ll see it regularly. Especially when you find yourself with a spare 15 minutes, take a quick look and see what you can work on next.

This is the stuff. These small steps add up to create massive change for your brand.

So that’s it! What’s on your bingo card? I’d love to know! Please send me a DM and tell me what’s on your bingo card. Maybe one of the squares is to come on this podcast as a guest.

If that’s the case, the best thing you can do is send your submission to hello@mydailybusiness.com. Tell us why you want to be on the podcast, what you’re going to help our audience learn, or how you want to connect with them.

We get a lot of cookie-cutter submissions, so just make it real. Imagine you're talking directly to me or a friend—sharing your story and what you hope to achieve.

There are no guarantees, but if we think you’re a good fit, we’d love to have you! The more you practice, the easier it gets.

Thank you so much for listening. If you want to go through this in text format, you can find that along with the links to group coaching at mydailybusiness.com/podcast/481.

Thank you again for listening!

I'll see you next time. Bye!
