How to Get Your Book Published
It’s one thing to want to “one day” write a book, quite another to actually land a book deal with a traditional publisher and then figure out how to actually write it within their time line and budget. This is, of course, before you consider the marketing and distribution of the book — from launch to longevity and having a long-tail of readership globally.
In 2020 the first book from Fiona Killackey, Passion Purpose Profit: Sidestep the #hustle and build a business you love was published across Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom and United States. The book went to #1 in business on Booktopia and was listed in top ranking business booklists across numerous global booksellers. In 2021 Passion Purpose Profit won the Best General Business Book in the Australian Business Book Awards and a was a shortlist finalist for the best non-fiction design in the Australian Book Design Awards. To date, the book has sold more than 14,000 copies and continues to go into reprint. The second book, Business to Brand: Moving from transaction to transformation (Hardie Grant, 2024) has already received fantastic sales and great media reviews since it’s release in September 2024.
In this course (which incorporates a 7-week live coaching component), we will dive into how this book (and the next one) came to be, looking at everything from ideation and book proposals through to the global marketing strategy and seller connections.
We will cover:
Book idea — what will stick? Book Publishers — how to find the right one for your book
Book Proposal — how to craft one that genuinely stands out
Book Contracts — what to expect in terms of advance, understanding contracts and knowing your rights
Book Planing — how to structure your book and a process for actually writing this
Book Permissions — what can you include and who needs to be credited/ paid for their contributions (this is something most people do not understand and it can take longer than writing the book itself!)
Book Marketing — from pre launch through to longevity how to craft a strategic and sustainable marketing plan
This is a mix of self-paced online course work and 7x 1-hour live coaching sessions. Group coaching will start on December 2024 and extend until February 2025 (with time off for the end of year break). Exact date and time will be determined based on the group’s availability. If you cannot make the live calls, you can send through Qs ahead of time which will be answered on the call.
This price will increase in 2025.
Due to the online nature of this, we do not offer refunds. Please read through the above and email any questions ahead of payment to hello@mydailybusiness.com

"Hearing from Fiona, and have a dedicated structured time to think about, and work on my book idea. I also loved the realism of the financial side of book publishing and pushing us to really think about why we want to spend time dedicated to a project like writing a book." - Kylie, Of Kin
